Hampton & Sons, Woven Cotton / Canvas, Single Pocket Shoulder Bag, Pouch, with Two Buttons, Brown with White Strap, There is a Sticker with "Zimm / Made in England / 100% Cotton", 1941 Date on Inside of Flap, WWII, *US Military Surplus.
The bag is clearly made in England, probably for the British Army, however, it was acquired
in the early 1970s
as military surplus from one of the Bay Area Military Installations.
Why it was in possession of the US Military, I don't know.  But we also have some India Bags (Canvas Bags made in India for the British Military after WWII), again acquired from the US Military.
The bag was never issued or used, it was stored with a number of similar bags all tied together with string, it does show its age, with some light shelf wear and the "Zimm" sticker has come unglued and there is a number in green marker under the Zimm sticker on the flap (See photos).  All of the bags have a old, canvas, military surplus smell if that makes any sense.  We have not washed one so we do not know how it will hold up in laundry but it was made for the military so probably pretty well?
These bags are amazing for a quick trip to the farmers market or to use as a smaller grocery bag!
